Soil Scientist/Senior Soil Scientist

About this role

We are seeking a Soil Scientist/Senior Soil Scientist to join our team of experienced and dedicated scientists.  The role will involve using your technical skills and knowledge on a wide variety of projects for both public and private sector clients including:

  • Executing on-ground field works at a range of sites involving the collection of soil, sediment, surface and groundwater samples and supervision of contractors.

  • Project scoping, proposal writing and fieldwork preparation.

  • Undertaking all works consistent with our safety values, systems and procedures.

  • Evaluating and distilling field and analytical data.

  • Preparing scientific and technical reports using fundamental soil science to deliver innovative and practical solutions, and advice.

  • Working as part of a broad team to deliver soil science expertise to SESL Australia’s valued clients.

 

This role is offered as a working from home office arrangement in Victoria and on a full-time basis.

 

Requirements

We are seeking talented and curious scientists who want to advance their career with a well-established and trusted niche laboratory and Soil Science consultancy.  Ideally you will bring:

  • A degree in agriculture, soil science, horticulture, geology, environmental science or relevant earth sciences.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of related professional experience in field investigations and soil surveying.

  • A passion for field-based project work including soil sampling, water sampling, in-field soil surveying, contractor supervision and safety management.

  • Capacity to work autonomously with support and mentoring in a collaborative team environment.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills and the aptitude to confidently liaise with project teams, subcontractors and clients.

  • The drive and commitment to succeed and to be a strong contributor to the growth and success of SESL Australia.

  • A full driver’s license and white card.

  • Ability and willingness to travel interstate.

  • Full competency in Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, Power Point and relevant professional software.

  • Safety leadership in the field and commitment to adopting behavioural based safety programs.

  • (Desirable) membership with professional organisations such as Soil Science Australia.

Qualification & Experience

 

  • A degree in agriculture, soil science, horticulture, geology, environmental science or relevant earth sciences.

  • (Desirable) membership with professional organisations such as Soil Science Australia.

Other Requirements

  • Located/ based in Melbourne, Victoria.

  • Ability to work remotely. 

  • Full working rights within Australia.

  • Ability to travel interstate.

  • Full drivers license.

  • White Card Certification.

  • First Aid Certification.
