SESL Australia have been involved in the Western Sydney Airport since the initial soil surveying process. For the bulk earthworks footprint, SESL characterised the soil resource and identify limitations involved with re-use. SESL developed soil specifications, testing suites, Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) plans to ensure treatment of soil across the area was conducive of healthy landscape development.
SESL was also engaged in the construction phase to conduct testing and provide advice on the post-strip soil quality, amelioration and assist with following the required QA/QC plans. Approximately 950,000 m3 of topsoil and 1,000-2,000 hectares of subgrade was characterised and advised upon by SESL during this project.
The expected completion date for this project is set for 2026. SESL Australia are still actively working on this project and will continue to work closely with the Western Sydney Airport bulk earthworks and landscaping team. Alongside these teams, SESL will be providing ongoing advice and adaptive solutions to challenges encountered.
